B7 air to air intercooler

Post by BMW Performance »

Any interest in Alpina B7 air to air intercoolers? I was in a shop last week that makes heat exchangers getting a evaporator core checked and they were talking about building intercoolers and radiators for the Bugatti that drove straight into the lake. I asked about making a run of Alpina B7 intercoolers and they said they would. Anybody interested? I have no idea currently on price. Just checking to see if people would be interested currently.

I have not even seen one-- what is their size and where are they typically mounted?

The core is 19x10 (not counting side tanks) mounted long ways in the nose.

Curious on price & potential ease of fitment in a 745i.

Looks like not much interest so probably not going to produce.

I’d be interested depending on quality. The problem is the availability of “decent” quality intercoolers in about any size for relatively cheap now. If this intercooler had brackets in place and dropped in without much fuss it might be worth a little more investment.

Was not any interest so did not pursue getting any made.

I've never seen a stock unit mounted before.

Interesting. Would one be able to retain the factory condenser in an e23 with a unit designed like this or need to move to a smaller parallel flow? I've been toying with ideas for lower IAT's as opposed to the stock IC. Something that could easily be adapted to the chassis with little to no modifications.
