I guess It's time to rebuild the pedal assembly, and change that leaking MC gasket

Perfect timing to install the reinforcement bracket at the same time.

We decided to keep the testing going just a little longer. I’m taking off for a 6000 mile road trip in the E28 tomorrow, of course still with the prototype clutch spring in there.

After 3 weeks of intensive testing, the spring still feels great and shows no significant wear on the shaft.

Nevertheless, we just got the Anodizing samples back. This should eliminate the very last concern.

What a magnificent piece of art. Please add me to the list. :thanks:

(No hurry, the project toy has plenty of other things clamoring for my attention, but this is undoubtedly one of the issues. Great to know I'll be able to address it in style.)

We will be launching the clutch springs today or tomorrow, the format will be a little different this time.

The spring worked great on my 5000 mile roadtrip, still no wear or signs that the new Aluminium version would be weaker then the steel one.

Very excited about this. Guess I’ll keep checking here for the new process to order?

5,000 miles?! Amazing. Would love to have that kind of confidence in my e28. She’s getting there...slowly.

Was great until I hit a deer in South Dakota on my way back.
I did do a lot of baselining in the last 3 months to make sure the car is ready and I still was nervous :)

That is really sad. So sorry for you. Did that happen at night?
And why or better yet, what part of your baselining still made you unsure, or nervous?
Wish you can find all those Euro parts with ease.

Luckily nothing happened to you it seems. Happy fourth.

Arrg. Small consolation but it looks like you drove it home. Not a given hitting a deer. Hit one in a '57 Bug eons ago and it did a number on the F fender, the F quarter panel, the R quarter panel and the rear fender. Oh, the hood and headlight too. Lots of pickups don't drive home. But still, the shits.

Your pics look familiar though,

Capitol Reef, maybe on the Burr Trail?
?
Moab area, or possibly Monument Valley
Grand Tetons
No clue

Yeah. Happened at night about an hour away from the hotel we wanted to stay at.
Nothing in particular that made me nervous, but it’s still a 30 year old car with a crappy fuse box layout that doesn’t like severe heat (highway was 108F) too much.

Got lucky that nothing happened to us and I had a chance to test the brakes. Burned through some speed and rubber before hitting the deer luckily. 1000 miles on 4 tires with flat spots was fun but she didn’t skip a beat and did it in under 14h.

1.) Close to bull canyon overlook after google maps sent us over a 40 mile rough dirt road from Gateway, CO. Straight through the old uranium mines. Felt like in “the hills have eyes”.

2.) Dominguez Escalante

3.) castle valley, just outside of Moab

4.) Tetons

SO Close!

The orders will be a little different this time, as we are launching it through our online shop.
I will post the link here. There will be no preorders but we will mark them as available as soon as the first ones get done.
The rear materials came in on Friday, taking inventory at the moment and then starting on the shafts, since they take the longest with the external anodizing.

We have decided to not take preorders, but to focus on getting these moving as soon as possible and then use the shop system to speed up the process of getting each order processed.
It sounds like they are still working on things.

Just curious, can you tell me the weight of this rev 2 version? And do you know how it compares to the rev 1?

From a design perspective, what is different between rev 1 and 2?

Sorry if you already covered this.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Eric,

I haven’t put one on a scale but it’s significantly less than V1.
I’ll see if I can weigh one up this week.

The main difference is in the material choice which made machining a lot easier. V1 was way to time intensive to machine, with the 4340 material.
We are now using 7075 Aluminium with a hard anodized shaft.

I’m still running the first Al prototype in my car and there is no visible wear of the shaft without the hard anodizing. So as usual, we are just way over designed. :)

I'm running this spring and can vouch for the quality! I didn't even know my original spring was starting to bend till I swapped in the new one. It was only a matter of time before failure.
