DME 055 going rate?

Post by m-racer »

I have been looking for a spare 055 (M88) and have located one from a M635CSi. The owner has no idea what it's worth (though he knows they don't grow on trees) and wants me to make an offer. It has been tested and seems fine. Any idea what it's worth? I want to make the guy a fair but intelligent offer. Thanks.

Guys,

$400 - $500 is probably a fair price. The 055 DME was only used on the M88/3 engined BMWs. This would be the 588 LHD Euro E28 M5s, the M88/3 engined Euro M635CSi. and the SA 745i. This makes a somewhat rare DME in the US / NA market compared to the 079 used in the US E28 M5/6.

These are NOT ecu's that you readly find at your local pick-a-parts. Your better off networking with someone in Germany and grab one even though the US$ is worth about s _ _ _.

For what it's worth, I sold it to him for $500 and threw in a 1989 dinan chip and free shipping. I keep forgetting about the crap USD, I should charge euros for euro parts, right?

Thanks for the help guys.

FWIW: I checked the production numbers for the E24 and E28 M5 which had the 055 DME, here is what I came up with. Euro E24 M635CSi - 3807, Euro M5 (LHD, RHD, SA) - 871. This is a total of 4678 E24s and E28s produced which used this DME. I didn't include the SA E23 745i production numbers in this tally. My WAG is there were probably about 5000 of these ECUs produced for BMW's total production needs including spares.
